How Safe is the Tower?
The Alpine Tower was built with the mindset of safety first. Each climber must wear a safety helmet, harness, and be tied in securely to the belay system. The Belay System is safety system where a rope is set up from the top of the tower and one end is attached to a belayer and the other to the climber. The belayer end of the rope is attached to the belayer and to a heavy duty bench. For each belayer there is a back up belayer who helps keep the rope free and is able to brake the rope should anything happen to the belayer. The climbers end of the rope is attached to the climbers harness. The Site Manager inspectes each climber for proper knot tying and attachment, and proper harness and helmet adjustments. The site manager is also on watch to make sure the belayers and their back-ups are using proper belay technique and that they are not distracted while on belay. The tower is also inspected regularly to tighten up any loose hand/foot holds and to make sure that all equipment is sound and functioning properly. With the belay system and proper use of equipment the tower is not only fun, but safe and secure!
